THC-P Vs Delta 9?

Many assume that cannabinoids with the same names as other cannabinoids also share several similarities. However, this is a misconception. The only similarity that those cannabinoids share is the same name, but other than that, they all produce their own set of effects and offer their type of benefits. Some people mix cannabinoids up because they get confused by their similar names.

Today, we will talk about two cannabinoids called THC-P and Delta 9. With the help of this blog, you can find out how these cannabinoids work and also find out what differences both of these cannabinoids have. You’ll also find out which cannabinoid is stronger than the other.

What Is THC-P?

THC-P

A group of Italian researchers recently discovered THC-P in 2019. This cannabinoid occurs naturally in hemp plants in small traces. It is formed naturally with the help of an organic chemical compound, cannabigerol acid (CBGA), which also occurs naturally in hemp plants. The THC-P cannabinoid can create powerful psychoactive and intoxicating effects.

Since this cannabinoid is relatively new, there is a lot of debate going on about the legal status of this cannabinoid. However, thanks to the 2018 Farm bill, which states that all hemp-derived cannabinoids are legal if they only contain 0.3% of THC, the THC-P cannabinoid is considered legal.

What Is Delta 9?

The Delta 9 cannabinoid was first discovered in 1964 by Israeli chemist Raphael Mechoulam, also referred to as the “Father Of Cannabis.” This cannabinoid occurs in hemp and is also the prominent cannabinoid that makes you feel high when you consume marijuana. It can create psychoactive and intoxicating effects, which are much stronger than the Delta 8 cannabinoid, which is also referred to as its twin.

You can find various Delta 9 products available in retail stores as well as online stores. They include tinctures, gummies, distillates, vape carts, candies, chocolates, brownies, joints, blunts, etc.

What Is The Difference Between THC-P & Delta 9?

You’ll be surprised to know that these two cannabinoids are very different from each other, even though they’re both forms of THC. Some of their differences include the following:

  • Extraction Method

The THC-P cannabinoid is found in hemp plants in small traces, that’s why it’s difficult to extract this cannabinoid directly from hemp. Thankfully, this cannabinoid can be obtained in another way which involves extracting CBD from hemp and helping it convert to THC-P by synthesizing it.

Delta 9, on the other hand, can be obtained through 2 extraction methods. One of those methods involves distilling other cannabinoids when extracting the Delta 9 cannabinoid directly from hemp. The other method involves extracting the CBD cannabinoid from hemp and converting it into Delta 9 with the help of a process called isomerization.

  • Potency

Due to the extended seven-atom side chain in its molecular structure, the THC-P cannabinoid can bind with the CB1 receptors of the endocannabinoid system 33 times more than the Delta 9 cannabinoid. This means that the effects produced by this cannabinoid are very strong and can even cause hallucinations. THC-P is also considered to be 10x the strength of the Delta 9 cannabinoid and 2 times stronger than the THC-O cannabinoid.

The Delta 9 cannabinoid can create more substantial psychoactive effects than the Delta 8 and HHC cannabinoids. This is because it has a higher binding affinity for the CB1 receptors, but they’re not as high as the THC-P cannabinoid.

Conclusion - Is THC-P Stronger Than Delta 9?

Although the Delta 9 cannabinoid can produce psychoactive effects, which are more potent than both HHC and Delta 8, it can’t have stronger effects than THC-P. So yes, the THC-P cannabinoid is much more potent than the Delta 9 cannabinoid.
